Should you go for a Paid Twitter Blue Tick?

Elon Musk, a businessman, took over Twitter for 43 billion dollars. The advertisement revenue fell drastically by 71%. As a way to balance the deficit, he decided to charge a subscription for Blue Tick, which used to be free. I discuss the relative merits of subscribing to Blue Tick in this blog post.

Two people named Kanye West and Tony La Russa sued Twitter when they found others impersonating them in June 2009. To deal with this, Twitter launched its verified accounts program. In 2021, it was extended to different types of accounts, such as companies, brands, and influential individuals.

Twitter charges a monthly fee of Rs 650 for desktop users and Rs 900 for mobile users. If a user goes for a subscription, he/she can edit the tweet, can tweet long messages of length up to 10,000 characters, and upload 1080p videos. There will be a reduction of 50% in advertisements on their accounts.

I promoted a YouTube Kannada channel through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in my past job. The focus of the YouTube channel was Kannada movies.
During Q2 2020–Q1 2021, the average quarterly tweets increased from 287 to 954. This resulted in the average quarterly profile visits increasing from 400% to 1100%. Based on the YouTube analytics, I found that only 1% of views were accounted for by external social media platforms.

Twitter’s blue tick helps build credibility for the user’s account. You will be able to share your ideas. If your monetization is through YouTube, Twitter can not increase your channel’s views but can help promote your brand. If your monetization is through other means like training programs, consulting, counselling…etc, it can be helpful.
